ODB II protocol for Magna 2005

Hi,
I have bought ODB II scanner online that uses ELM327 protocol. I couldn't connect to the ECU.
After some search I understood that Magna 2005 uses different protocol.
Is that correct?
do you recommend any scanner for personal use (not expensive) and works for Magna 2005?

If you want to check codes when the CEL is lit, the simplest and cheapest is the "flashing lights" method - a google search of this site should turn up a description.

For logging engine parameters the only readily available solution is an OpenPort cable and Evoscan.

I have tried to do this "flashing lights" search before, without success.

Are you able to look into this?

P.S. I would have thought such information would have been in the factory workshop manual which I have a copy of in the usual online .pdf format, but I can't find it there either.
